Dr Alex Levin joins the Axenfeld-Rieger Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board

A leading pediatric ophthalmologist, with extensive experience in ocular genetics and bioethics, has joined the Axenfeld-Rieger Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board. 

Dr Alex Levin has more than 35 years experience in pediatric ophthalmology, pediatrics, and ocular genetics. He is a practicing clinician-scientist, a Professor of both Ophthalmology, and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Centre.

Dr Levin has a vast research portfolio in basic and translational research. He has authored hundreds of journal articles, manuscripts, and books on pediatric ophthalmology, ocular genetics, and bioethics, and is regularly invited to speak at symposiums across the United States, Canada, and around the world. 

His work has been recognised extensively and includes awards from the, the Claud Worth Silver Medal, the Al Biglan Medal in Pediatric Ophthalmology, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus to name a few. He is the Founder, Medical Advisor, and member of the Board of the Pediatric Glaucoma and Cataract Family Association (www.pgcfa.org).

“The anterior segment dysgenesis syndromes have always been an interest of mine in terms of diagnosis, genetics, and treatment of glaucoma,” says Levin. “I am honoured to work with this new Foundation in hope of improving the lives of patients with Axenfeld-Rieger spectrum.”

“Dr Levin brings extensive experience in the fields of pediatric ophthalmology, ocular genetics, and bioethics to the Scientific Advisory Board. His expertise in the treatment and management in genetic eye diseases and pediatric glaucomas will be invaluable in our research efforts to find more effective treatments for glaucoma and associated eye issues caused by Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome,” said Rebecca Sloan, founder of the Axenfeld-Rieger Foundation. 

The Axenfeld-Rieger Foundation is a patient advocacy group on a mission to find a cure, or effective treatments, for the glaucoma caused by Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome.
